Good afternoon!
We have received a number of inquiries about assisting those areas affected by the severe storms and flooding in Missouri and across the South. In addition to keeping all of the people in the affected areas in your prayers, the best way to immediately assist is with a financial donation. Volunteer opportunities, no doubt will abound as the areas become more stable.
St. Louis Tornadoes
Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri (LFCS) is our Lutheran Disaster Response agency. Financial contributions may be sent directly to them. Please note "Tornadoes" in the memo line and mail to:
Disaster Response
Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri
8631 Delmar Boulevard
St. Louis, MO 63124
Volunteer coordination is being handled through United Way 2-1-1. Volunteer groups may register online at www.211missouri.org or by calling "2-1-1" (from Missouri land-line); or (314) 421-4636 from cell phones or out of state. If you would like to get involved, here is a list of volunteer opportunities.
Missouri Flooding
LFCS will also be involved with responding to the flooding in South/Southeast Missouri. To designate a financial gift for those areas, please note "Disaster Response" on your check and send to the address above. United Way 2-1-1 is doing volunteer coordination for these areas as well.
Severe Storms in Southern/Southeast U.S.
Nearly 300 people are confirmed dead after yet another devastating outburst of severe storms and tornadoes tore through the south. Christ Lutheran Church (Cullman, AL) was heavily damaged by a tornado touchdown, and communities in Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia join many others facing a long recovery process. Volunteer opportunities have not yet been determined, but please check regularly on the synod website http://css-elca.org/disaster-response/ for regular updates.
Gifts to ELCA Disaster Response "U.S. Severe Storms" help to provide the type of immediate and long-lasting support that is already underway in these affected regions. Give today to support the needs in this response and others like it.
Donations for tornado relief will also be accepted through:
